In-Game Almanac

Some of the most frequent questions I heard from folks playing 9 Dazy were "What can I do with certain items?" or "How is XYZ working?" also "Should I craft this?  Do I need it and is it worth it?" and "What item is this? I can't really see it!".

All such questions  get now answered in-game and in context of  items and options. When players right-click on any kind of item slot or crafting button, an Almanac page is offering all relevant information for the selected object, like:

  • General stats including a picture
  • Crafting-, cooking- and battle-related stats, if there are any for the selected item
  • Direct links to all  related item pages, including some pages for general topics  like food or energy
  • Pages for unknown items don't show their information, players have to discover these items first

There is also a back button for navigating to previous pages as well as a close button (you can also click outside to close it).

Here are some example pages. The orange text parts offer links to other pages.

Almost all the information is based on and generated out of configuration files.

In preparation for this to be possible, I was refactoring large portions of the game code again. The details for this part I was documenting in this separate post: https://humane-tiger.itch.io/9-dayz/devlog/610662/the-reasons-for-refactoring-an...

Feedback is welcome

As always I am looking forward to your feedback and ideas.  With the Almanac at hand, in regards to items, crafting- and cooking-options, do you feel comprehensively informed now? Do you  see any other places / slots or even topics, where you would like to trigger the Almanac?

Use the comments below or the  Jams review comments if you have any thoughts to share.

My special thanks go to CalamitysEchoes who was bringing up the idea for this feature in one of his fantastic Streams where he played and commented  my game.
