Announcement for the post-jam update


This is the announcement for the post-jam update of my Spooky 2D Jam '23 entry "Escape the Cave".

Improvements

  • Added glow dust particles  - they fit just nicely to the cave environment
  • Music keeps playing after restart instead of stopping and restarting
  • The glow of the firefly is more intense when light is at "full charge"
  • The wings are flapping
  • Show score, highscore and best score after  each run
  • Collectable points in form of stars make the highscore more diverse and non-linear
  • Start page with 3 difficulty options  - adjusting the amount of ligh orbs spawning and the influence of gravity

Helloween Special

I might have created an abomination 😱 Are you crazy brave enough to give it a try? It might only be me - scared by my own creation (this wouldn't be the first time...).   Would like to hear your oppinion,  if  you feel confident.


Bugfixes

  • After  cave  turned  completely  dark,  light is now coming back when player collects a lightorb "by chance"
  • When you win a game, the screen showing the final score isn't disappearing any more
  • No  delayed "you win" message is showing up any more, when players leave the "Play again" screen open
  • In Chrome the dark area now also shrinks gradually over time, instead of collapsing spontaniously

When there is enough time

In  case  I  find  the  time,   I  will  also add some of these points:

  • More challenging cave  wall generation - the experienced player might have noticed that currently there is  a corridor throughout the whole length of the cave, where walls will never spawn (somewhere in the vertical middle), want to change that, to make the  flight more challenging  and  unpredictable
  • A nice ending
